Sorbet has a history behind it that says the Roman Emperor, Nero, invented it during the first century AD. The story said Nero had runners along the Appian way, passing buckets of snow to the mountains to his banquet hall, where it was mixed with honey and wine. Other countries also laid claim to the original invention, but the mixture of snow, juice and fruit pulp is delicious. The French served it traditionally between the starter course and the main course, and is served as a non-fat and vegan alternative to ice cream.
Sorbet is made from water, and fruit puree. It is an excellent source of Calcium and Vitamin C, and is naturally fat free and low in calories. They make excellent fruit smoothies and are good for you in health aspects. They would be similar to fruit whips where you put ice, fruit, and some light flavoring in a blender to whip a light and airy, non dairy drink. Very tasty, natural, and healthy.

The Fun Formula For Homemade Ice Cream
Traditional homemade ice cream was a custard-like mixture made with eggs, vanilla, milk and sugar. Original recipes were much like making homemade pudding before the instant brands came along, and might involve cranking an ice cream maker full of ice and rock salt until the mixture was frozen.
Now, there are variations on homemade ice cream that can involve an ice cream machine that makes it in quickly, or even just a plastic bowl in the freezer. Many creative frozen dessert lovers enjoy experimenting with a variety of flavors as well as low calorie, healthier options.
It's easy to make a dreamsicle treat using sugar free instant pudding mix in French vanilla flavor and substituting orange juice for half of the milk. Of course, you can use any flavor of pudding or juice for that matter. What about banana pudding with pineapple juice or tapioca with cranberry? There are several ways you can freeze and serve this frozen treat. Kids love it in Popsicle trays or you can make it in a bowl and stir every hour or so until it freezes.
Another great frozen treat can be made by using yogurt and a variety of flavors to make a creamy frozen dessert. You can use instant Jell-O in different flavors and add fruit like berries, banana slices, cherries, or peaches and make a creamy, low calorie and healthy treat.
Some people choose to indulge their frozen yogurt with chocolate pudding mix, peanut butter, and marshmallows. When it comes to homemade ice cream, you are only limited by your imagination and you don't need a special machine to make it. Simply freeze it in a plastic bowl with a lid until it gets to the desired consistency. Some parents will make smoothies in a blender and stick it in the freezer before dinner and then dessert is quick and easy.
Many of the new appliances make it pretty easy to make frozen treats at home, whether you are looking for healthy treats or rich and luxurious specialties that you and your family will love. Most people enjoy a little comfort food now and then and it seems to be more rewarding when you have made it yourself.
A great idea for adults is a chocolate dark forest cheesecake desert. It is very easy to make by mixing yogurt and cream cheese in the blender, add some chocolate pudding mix, a little bit of cream and turn out into a bowl. You can add whole frozen raspberries and white chocolate chips and freeze, while stirring occasionally to keep it smooth and creamy. Add a little chocolate or raspberry drizzle and some whipped cream to serve, and you have a homemade ice cream dessert you can't buy.
As you can see, you are only limited by your imagination when it comes to today's homemade ice cream. Of course, if you miss that homemade ice cream flavor of yesterday there are many ways to get it, but you can replicate it quite easily with some French vanilla pudding mix and milk in a plastic bowl, or better yet, one of the great ice cream machines that can make it quickly.

Making Homemade Baked Ziti
Baked Ziti is an easy and popular Italian dish that you can make at home yourself. All you have to do is follow the basic recipe listed below.
The Sauce
While you could use jarred marinara sauce of the baked ziti if you are really pressed for time, the dish will be so much better if you make it yourself. Mastering marinara sauce is not that difficult, and it provides you with a base for numerous pasta recipes, including baked ziti.
To make marinara sauce, you will first need to get the following ingredients:
o 1/4 cup of olive oil
o 4 garlic cloves, halved
o A 35 ounce can of imported Italian tomatoes (can be substituted with fresh tomatoes if you prefer)
o 3 basil leaves, washed and chopped
o Salt
o Pepper
Pour the olive oil into a large sauce pan and add the garlic. Turn the heat to medium and cook until the garlic is soft and slightly browned. While it is cooking, crush the tomatoes, saving the juices.
Add to the garlic. Add in the basil and salt and pepper to taste. Bring the entire mixture to a boil, and then lower the heat so that it simmers. Cook the sauce for about 20 minutes or until thickened.
Baked Ziti
Once you have your sauce prepared you are ready to make your baked ziti. There is some debate as to whether the dish should contain ricotta cheese. Baked ziti does not. However, a very similar dish, Ziti Sorrentino, does have the ricotta added in. So you can choose to add it into this recipe or leave it out as you prefer.
To prepare baked ziti, you will need the following ingredients:
o One pound of ziti pasta
o 4 cups of marinara sauce, either jarred or from the recipe listed above
o 8 ounces of fresh shredded mozzarella
o 1/2 cup of fresh grated Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese
o Optional: 1 pound of ricotta cheese
Start by cooking the pasta. You will need to bring a large pot of water to a boil, and then add in the ziti. Cook until it is almost al dente, but remains somewhat undercooked - it will continue to cook while baking. Strain the pasta.
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Pour the strained pasta into a large baking dish. Add in half of the sauce, half of the mozzarella cheese, and half of the Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese.
If you are using ricotta, add in all of it now. Toss with the pasta until it is well mixed. Top the mixture with the remaining sauce, and the sprinkle on the remaining cheese. Bake the baked ziti for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and lightly browned. Serve immediately or freeze for a future meal. You can serve your baked ziti alongside a traditional Italian salad and some garlic bread.
To finish the meal, consider adding in a glass of fine Italian wine and even a slice of tiramisu or a bowl of gelato. This meal is so easy to prepare and so delicious you will look for excuses to cook.
