How to Make Easy Fruit Ice in Your Ice Cream Maker

You can make very tasty and easy fruit ice in an ice cream maker and it will come out perfectly "slushy" or you can place it in the freezer a little while for a more sorbet kind of texture.

I find that serving one of these after a big dinner always goes off very well. Everyone feels like something "sweet" but no one can face a heavy dessert and then these "sorbet" like "ice" is always very tasty and most guests love them.

An ice such as a lemon ice or an orange ice can, of course, also be used in between courses to clean the palate, as they so in the fancy restaurants. With one of the modern ice cream makers where you do not have to freeze the bowl for hours before you can use it, you can make a variety in a very short time. So, at your next dinner party you can surprise your guests with a wide choice of ices and ice creams to choose from.

To give you a basic idea, here are two very easy "fruity" ices you can try.

Papaya sorbet:

Ingredients:
1 very ripe papaya
11/4 Cup sugar
The juice of 1 lemon
1/2 Teaspoon saltMethod:
Mix the pureed papaya with the lemon juice
Add the salt and sugar and stir until it has dissolved
Freeze according to the directions of your machineOf course, just about any kind of pureed fruit can be used in this recipe. Make sure you adjust the amount of sugar to the sweetness of the fruit. For a pawpaw ice cream you can omit the lemon juice and add one cup of cream to the mixture.

Orange Ice:

Ingredients:
4 Cups of water
1/4 Cup of lemon juice
2 Cups of sugar
2 Cups orange juice
Grated rind of 2 orangesMethod:
Boil the water and sugar for 5 minutes
Add the juices and allow the mixture to cool down
Strain the mixture and freeze according to the instruction of your machine
To make a lemon ice, substitute the orange juice and orange rind for lemon, but you will have to increase the amount of sugar to taste. As you can see, with one of the modern ice cream makers, making fruit ice and sorbet is very easy. With the old fashioned one it will take you longer and you will not be able to make them on short notice. With one of the old fashioned ones you can still make these ices, you simply have to plan ahead in order to place the bowl in the freezer in time.

If you have an ice cream maker, try a tasty fruit ice today.

Why Jello Recipes Make the Perfect Ending to Dinner

Not everyone has appetizers before dinner and not everyone has dessert either, but sometimes it can be nice to make appetizers or dessert, or even both, because it makes dinner extra special.

Appetizers and desserts can be as filling and substantial or as small as you want. Think about dessert recipes, for example. If you are hungry you might want a big slab of chocolate cake with whipped cream or a generous slice of warm apple pie with vanilla ice cream. If you prefer something lighter, that is where jello recipes really hold their own.

Jello Dessert Ideas

There are jello recipes for every occasion and if you just fancy something sweet after dinner, you might like to make a plain jello dessert, a layered jello dessert or even jello with chunks of fruit in it. Jello is suitable for kids and adults alike and you can even get sugar free varieties of jello which are perfect if you want to enjoy dessert without consuming lots of calories or fat.

Jello can be used to make cookies, cakes or pies. Jello instant pudding is great when you want a dessert in a hurry and this delicious dessert comes in many flavors. You can also use jello pudding to make mousse recipes or pies.

Pairing Jello with Fruit

Another good idea for dessert is to make a jello-filled fruit. You can remove the flesh from an orange, grapefruit or melon and pour jello inside. Leave it to set and you have a special and unique dessert.

Desserts like this are so simple to make and you can even make them in bulk if you are catering for a buffet or party. Choose sugar free jello and you will be able to make a healthy dessert which tastes amazing.

After dinner it is nice to indulge your sweet tooth, even if you just have a small dessert. Desserts are a good way to end dinner. Sometimes you can have something indulgent and other times perhaps you just fancy a jello recipe or something light.

Recipe for a Jello-Filled Cantaloupe

This is a fun recipe and if you want to use sugar free jello to make a healthy jello dessert for the family, this recipe is ideal. You can use any fruit you want in this jello-filled cantaloupe recipe. Canned pineapple and mandarin segments would be a good alternative to strawberry and banana, if you fancy a tropical flavor. This recipe serves four people.

What you will need:

1 cantaloupe melon
1 cup boiling water
1 package sugar free lime jello
1 sliced banana
1 cup sliced strawberries

How to make it:

Dissolve the lime jello in the boiling water and let the mixture cool. Stir in the fruit. Cut a slice out of one end of the cantaloupe melon. Take out the seeds. Pour the lime jello into the middle. Wrap the melon in plastic wrap and chill it overnight in the refrigerator.

To serve, cut the jello filled melon in slices and garnish each serving with some whipped cream, cottage cheese or cream cheese.

Quick and Easy Guide to Making Fondant-Covered Sugar Cookies

New to sugar cookie decorating? You're not alone. Where do you start? I'll tell you. Get some good cookie cutters in whatever shapes you want to make. Luckily, the list is endless these days. And, if you cannot find what you want, you can purchase an easy to use kit to make your own cookie cutters in minutes.

Have a good, sturdy and tasty sugar cookie recipe? If not, don't fret. A Google search will turn up millions of sugar cookie recipe results.

Once the cookies have been baked and cooled, you'll probably stand there looking at them trying to decide just how you're going to get them to look like the designer cookies you saw in various bakeries, at a party or online. As long as you pick a quick and easy design, you'll alleviate the stress and have fun decorating.

To get started decorating, use a food safe paint brush. Take some piping gel and place in a small container. This will be your "glue" between the fondant and the sugar cookie. Hold your cookie in one hand and lightly paint the inner part of the cookie leaving the edges clean. You should barely see the piping gel on your cookie. This is important because the fondant cutout is not as large as your sugar cookie. Set this cookie aside.

Before rolling out your fondant, it is important to make sure that your entire working surface is clean. Keep a white cotton towel nearby to use between fondant color changes to clean off your non-stick mat and rolling pin. Use a non-stick mat so that your fondant does not stick to the mat or distorts your fondant cutout when it is removed to place on your cookie. Do not use confectioner's sugar if your fondant is sticking to the mat or rolling pin. It is better to use a little Crisco on the rolling pin to alleviate this problem.

Start rolling your fondant out in one direction, lift it completely off the mat, turn it 90 degrees, roll, lift and turn 90 degrees, roll, lift and turn 90 degrees until it reaches the thickness you want. One quarter inch (1/4") thickness seems to be standard, though some people use 1/18" thickness. See which works best for your design.

Not sure which fondant to use? You should try several different brands because they all taste different. Don't like the flavor? Add some of the concentrated flavors available at cake stores or online. Pick one that compliments your cookie flavor. The fondant available at the craft stores has been improved so try it on your sugar cookies. Use coupons to save money. Need a lot of fondant? Buy the 5 lb. container. Some companies have fondant that works well with decorated sugar cookies. It comes in many different delicious color flavor combinations. You can order samples online. Another company offers deep rich colored fondant in purple, red, yellow or black, and it is available in most cake stores and online retailers.

When your fondant has been rolled out, take the same cookie cutter used to bake the cookies (make sure that it is cleaned using a dry cloth) and cut out your fondant. The best technique to use to get a clean cutout is to press firmly all the way down, continue to hold your hand completely on top of the cookie cutter, and then give it a slight twist. I call this technique "press down and wiggle." This clean edge cutout in the beginning saves time when you don't have to remove ragged edges. Remove the cutter and lift your fondant cutout up and place on top of your piping gel covered cookie. Take your finger and slide it all over the cookie being careful not to press down or leave fingerprints. Now you have a smooth surface on which you can create your design.

Decorating is the best part! Use simple tools to get started, and the process, save time and money. The first set you should purchase is the Designer Pattern Press Set. It is available at most craft stores. In this package, you will find some very elegant presses. The symmetrical swirl, small and large fleurs de lis, corner flourish, flower, heart bow, scroll and curliques. These presses can be used to decorate cakes. Whether you're working on wedding cake cookies, baby shower cookies or any other design, you'll find one of the presses will suit your need as a beginner. Just practice imprinting your fondant before you start designing your cookies so you know how much pressure is needed to get a clean pattern imprint. This set is a deal under $8 and a steal you use a discount coupon. Play around with them. They will become your tools of the trade and will give you professional results every time. When you turn them in different directions, sometimes going on and off the edge of the fondant, you create a lot of different options for designs to use.

The second tool to purchase is the Quilting Patchwork cutter. This can be used horizontally, diagonally and vertically to make interesting designs. Need to make a monogram cookie for a wedding? Embellish the edges of a square cookie and use a stamped initial press for the center. Want something fancier? Put sugar pearls in the cross sections to make your cookie more elegant. An easy way to add sugar pearls is to use the pointed end of a small paint brush to make an indentation in the fondant (a slight dip) where you want the sugar pearl to land, and then add the sugar pearl. It will go right into the slot just like a pinball into the hole. Need to add a line of pearls? Use a ruler to make a line impression in the fondant. Sit your cookie on a rimmed plate and then pour the pearls over the line. You can easily line up the pearls and press them all the way down into the fondant. Once the fondant is dry, the sugar pearls will not move.

Check out craft stores or departments for more easy to use and inexpensive tools. Some of the same presses used for clay can be used on your fondant. Experiment. Rubber stamps are also inexpensive (again, think coupons) and great tools for embellishing your fondant. Look at the depth of the design on the stamp to get an idea of what it will look like when you press it into the fondant. Some presses only make light imprints. Use these presses only for your cookies and not for your crafts.

Practicing the amount of pressure it takes to get your designs to come out clean and even is important to make your cookies look professional. Take some fondant out of the package, roll out and then practice with the stamps and presses. If your design is not evenly imprinted across the fondant, re-roll out and then try again using both hands gently pressing the tool into the fondant and then lift. When you learn how much pressure you can use to imprint your design, you can do the imprint directly on the cookie without worrying whether the cookie will break. It may take you a couple times to get the cookie the way you want it to look. You can easily remove the fondant off the cookie if you don't like the design. Use a little Crisco and re-knead the fondant to take away the stickiness of the piping gel. Look at your cookie. You may have to add a little more piping gel to it before adding the fondant.

Once all of your cookies are decorated, let them sit in a dry place to dry overnight or 5-6 hours. Once the fondant is dry, you can use a food-safe paintbrush to add a little sparkle with Super Pearl luster dust. A little goes a long way. Cellophane bags can be purchased to put your cookies in and add a decorative bow.

Get ready for all of the compliments!

July is National Ice Cream Month!

National Ice Cream Month is upon us! What is it? Do we really need any special reason to indulge in the world's favorite dessert? Of course not. But in July, it gets its own special month to shine, all the same. There's also a National Ice Cream Day on which to really go all out. It falls on the third Sunday of July.

These two official US holidays were signed into law by President Ronald Reagan. A bit of whimsy? Not at all. Ice cream is big business. Almost 10% of US milk production goes to its manufacture and the industry generates billions of dollars for the US economy. It provides tens of thousands of jobs.

And you do want to stimulate the economy and preserve jobs, don't you?

President Reagan urged people to observe the day with "appropriate ceremonies and activities." So here are some suggestions on how we can celebrate the world's most popular dessert, stimulate the economy and have lots of summer fun, too!

Learn how to make it yourself - it's so easy!
Treat yourself to an ice cream maker so you can make some anytime you feel like it. (Here's how to find the best one for you.)
Host a tasting party!
Treat a friend to a cookbook on frozen desserts.
Test your knowledge with a trivia quiz - one question for each day of the month.
Make costumes for the party.
Get into shape and lose weight with the ice cream diet. (Yes, there is such a thing!)
Consider becoming your own boss with a franchise - open your own parlour.
Teach your kids some science by making this dessert the old-fashioned way, with salt and ice.

However you celebrate - have a wonderful, delicious time!

7 Steps to Consider in Choosing Healthy Food For Your Family

Habits are generally formed from the early stages in our life till we grow old. Forming habits, most of them anyway, usually start in the four corners of our home. And forming a healthy eating habit that can last a long run in our life usually starts in the place where we first learn to eat; our home. It is always within the home that we learned all our firsts. Living the lifestyle that we want to have for the rest of our lives cannot be simply picked up from anywhere, the home has always been the greatest factor of this.

Although the outside world has also a big share in forming what we will be in the future, everything usually still ended up with the family and our home. That is basically the reason why the family and our home has a great role to play in having a healthy life that we can live for the years to come. The choice of the right food to eat will also be more enhanced with the choices that are offered to us at home.

And even though a lot of studies are showing how the food we eat directly affects or contributes o different health risks and conditions, taking control of our wellness and health will always begin and will always be strengthened in our home.

So it is in this light that the following steps in choosing the healthy food for our family can be well acknowledged and understood for the purpose of incorporating a healthy eating and a healthy living pattern which will eventually become a habit in the future.

1. It would help a lot if you identify all the health-related risks that your family may already be gearing or eating toward. This means that you have to check on the health history of the family members, whether they have a history of any heart disease, high cholesterol and diabetes, obesity, or hypertension which can all place the family members at risk if you don't know what food should be for them. Once you have an idea about all this, it would be easier to plan and prepare every meal for them.

2. When doing grocery shopping, learn to read labels on the food that you will buy. Remember that food products that contain low or no fats at all, low on sugar and salt, and low in cholesterol are the foods that are of quality. Learn also to incorporate simplistic food. These are foods in their natural and fresh form. Buying fresh veggies and fruits are the greatest way to choose the healthy foods for your family. You don't need to have them cooked and they can easily be eaten in their healthy natural form. Serving raw and fresh veggie salads or fresh cut fruits for dessert is definitely a great way to give the family members their daily needed nutrients.

3. Opt to buy the leaner cuts of meat or white meat poultry products. These are definitely less fatty and can be better sources of protein. Serving your usual ground-beef meal, for instance, with ground chicken or turkey or even veal will be healthier and at the same time giving a variety. It will also be wise to add non-animal proteins to your usual diet. These include soy products, beans, and nuts; they are low in fat and definitely much better in all ways for the body's health.

4. Choose to serve more whole grain products in your meal. You can do this by changing your white bread to whole grain one, by eating more on whole grain cereals and brown rice for dinner. It is also better to include dairy in the family's diet. This will definitely create strong and healthy bones. Low-fat or skim milk is a lot better for the body, real cheeses and definitely not those processed ones which are higher in fat content. This also means that you have to take a trip to the deli counter every time you make your grocery shopping.

5. Instead of always frying, why don't you try baking, grilling, or broiling your fave foods and spice them up for additional palatability? This can also be a fun way to make up and originally create new recipes that your family will surely enjoy. Enough of deep frying your foods. Sauté veggies and meats in a non-stick pan instead of always suing butter or cooking oil. Also, it would be wise to cut on salt.

6. Give particular attention to your sweet tooth cravings. Try to moderate and discipline it for a change. Since each one of us has a sweet tooth to pay notice to, we don't necessary to give in to unhealthy sweets, right? We can always choose fresh fruits, trail mix, granola, sorbet or even gelato which is way healthier because of the natural ingredients in them. Do not allow yourself to partake a large quantity of any sweet in just one sitting. It wouldn't hurt to just be contented with a piece or two, once in a while.

7. Finally, remember that it is not necessary to always pile your plate with the highest food you could possibly have. It is suggested that we sue a smaller plate and to properly portion the meals that are being served to us. This will teach the stomach to just take in a small amount in just one eating.

Oreo Truffles - A Delicious and Easy to Make Treat!

Sometimes you want a treat that is just a step above the traditional cookies. Maybe a friend is having a party and you are supposed to bring something, but you want something a little special. But who has the time or the know how to make a gourmet dessert? No need to slave in the kitchen all day to make something great - just whip up a batch of Oreo Truffles. You will be the hit of the party.

What are Oreo truffles you ask? Just one of the most delicious treats that you can make! If you like Oreo's you will love truffles made from these fun cookies. They are easy to make and I have yet to find anyone who doesn't love them.

All you need to make this fun treat is:

1 package of Oreo Cookies. Get the regular kind, not double stuff.
1 - 8 oz package of softened cream cheese. You can use regular or the reduced fat kind
Dipping chocolate. You can also melt milk chocolate or white chocolate chips for dipping, but the consistency of dipping chocolate is better.

To make the truffles, crush the Oreo's completely until there are no chunks. I have found the easiest way to do this is to put a few at a time in the blender and turn it on high. I put the crushed cookies into a bowl and then crush a few more. This method may take a little longer, but the cookies are completely crushed when I am done.

Now mix the crushed Oreo's with the softened cream cheese. I like to put the whole mixture into my KitchenAid and then let it mix for a few minutes. Now, make small balls out of your cookie/cream cheese mixture. I like to use a cookie scoop or a melon ball scoop. This will give you an idea of how big to make the truffles. Set them on a cookie sheet and get ready to dip in the chocolate.

Now it is time to melt your chocolate. You can melt the chocolate using a double boiler on the stove or in the microwave. To melt in the microwave, use a glass bowl, microwave at half power in 30 second increments. Stir and do it again if the chocolate isn't completely melted. When you take it out of the microwave to stir, this will melt a lot of the un-melted chunks. You don't want to cook it too long or it will become grainy and unfit for dipping.

Dip the truffle balls into the melted chocolate and set on a try lined with waxed paper to dry. Once they have set, drizzle white chocolate over them for a delicious and decorative addition. Store the finished truffles in the refrigerator.

I guarantee you the truffles will be the hit of any event! Make sure you print out some recipes and have them close by because people will ask how you made them.

Ice Cream in Vancouver

There is just something about ice cream regardless of the cold weather that just makes you still crave for it. Even the ice cream shop owners are surprised at the number of people who still come out for ice cream in sub zero weather conditions. A customer says, "Even if it is cold, it is a great place to take your date for a nice frozen treat." From frozen yogurt to gelato to soft serve, there are so many choices to choose from. Which one do you choose? Vancouver has been known for its vast number of ice cream parlors. It has gotten to the point that even the health conscious eater can still find healthy ice cream alternatives.

A new recent fad in Vancouver is frozen yogurt matched with a considerable number of options for toppings. At Qoola, Vancouver's newest frozen yogurt shop, they have over 40 toppings to choose from. Sweet toppings include exotic fruits, chocolate, and candy. Salty toppings include various nuts, granola, almonds, pistachios and much more. Three basic frozen yogurt flavours are available in plain yogurt, green tea, and they also have flavor that changes once in a while. Best of all, each frozen yogurt has just less than 100 calories! Another popular frozen yogurt stand that has been around for many years now is Yogen Fruz. They do things a little differently where their yogurt is blended together with frozen fruit. Both are equally tasty, but it's nice change once in a while.

Gelato and sherbet is another popular ice cream dessert. There are quite a few Italian cream places in Vancouver and have a variety of flavours. They even have flavours that you wouldn't even dream about like ginger or garlic or curry! Once you grab your ice cream in the downtown area, you can go for a nice walk and do some window shopping and see what kind of sales you can find. It's a great way to spend an evening or weekend.

Notes From the Couch - The Crazy Chef Brings Us a Taste of Home

Since the time I was a small child, I have always loved Italian food. My fondest memories involve walking to the local pizza shop with my grandfather where mouth watering aromas sent my stomach into a fit of hungry growls. I could barely wait to sink my teeth into the greasy slice of hot baked dough with thick layers of creamy mozzarella cheese dripping and bubbling over sweet tangy sauce.

In my early twenties I was spoiled by Boston's North End where Hanover Street and the surrounding neighborhoods overflowed with authentic Italian restaurants. The tantalizing aroma of fresh baked breads, pizza and pastries floated around every corner. In later years I relocated to New York City and became a pasta addict. I saved my hard earned pennies and took up running in Central Park so I could afford to indulge in the fine eateries of Manhattan's Upper East Side, where heaping plates of hearty Bolognese, spicy Puttanesca and rich Penne alla Vodka topped with fresh grated parmesan were accompanied by thick loaves of crusty warm bread and washed down with velvety mouthfuls of Pinot Noir.

When I moved to Charleston nine years ago, my well honed taste buds entered into a shocking state of withdrawal. I missed my late night walks down Second Avenue munching on a thin slice of greasy pizza, as I headed for my tiny studio where I could spot at least five Italian restaurants from my bedroom window. No longer could I step outside my front door on a warm spring evening, grab a table on the street and feast on crusty warm bread soaked in olive oil, ridiculously tender Veal Marsala, savory bowls of Rigatoni Amatriciana, rich, creamy layers of homemade tiramisu and hot frothy cappuccino sprinkled with cocoa. I nearly gave up hope, until two guys from Naples, Carlo Colella and Davide Davino, opened Cuoco Pazzo (a.k.a. Crazy Chef) on Johnnie Dodds Blvd. in Mount Pleasant. When my mother first told me that she found an authentic family style Italian restaurant right here in Mount Pleasant, I was highly skeptical. Even so, I could hardly resist checking the place out.

My husband and I dined at Cuoco Pazzo on a recent Saturday evening. As we entered the place and I noticed several groups of satisfied looking customers lingering over coffee and dessert, I began to feel mildly encouraged. With two waitresses managing a small handful of tables, the service was prompt, friendly and attentive. I took a bite of warm crusty Italian bread soaked in herb infused olive oil and grated parmesan, then washed it down with a perfectly smooth sip of Montepulciano. If bread and wine could succeed in rousing my horribly deprived taste buds, then perhaps there is hope after all, I thought. I slowly perused the menu, pausing at the Spaghetti alla Carbonara and Vitello alla Marsala. We ordered both, in addition to the Pollo alla Parmigiana for my husband's more conventional taste buds.

By the time I took my second bite of the Carbonara I knew I would return to this place, and when the Veal Marsala literally melted in my mouth, I wanted to run into the kitchen and hug both chefs. We invited Carlos back to our table to express our appreciation, then bid farewell with two generous scoops of homemade Strawberry and Raspberry Gelato accompanied by two festive shots of Limoncello. I could not wait to return, and so I did, this time in search of the inside story.

How did two guys from Naples and one man from downtown Boston cross paths in Charleston and arrive at the same point in time to create a joint vision? On a recent Tuesday morning I found myself sitting across from Jo Meli, financier and silent partner behind the scenes, who left a long career as a nightclub owner to open Cuoco Pazzo. Jo's wife Dawn manages the books and the inventory, while Caro and Davide bring us a taste of their homeland through fresh ingredients, intense passion and a focus on simplicity.

They grow their own basil at the restaurant, and the veal is so tender, it can be cut with a spoon. By midmorning Carlo and Davide were already hard at work in the kitchen. The enormous vat of tomato ragu simmering on the burner smelled so delicious I wanted to dive head first into the pot. Despite my pleading I was unsuccessful in learning the recipe. Davide told me there is no magic to a good sauce, aside from a nice slow simmer and fresh wholesome ingredients.

Lunch was fast approaching and I could feel my stomach beginning to rumble. At that moment Davide jumped up and asked what I might like for lunch. I suggested it be the chef's choice, and shortly thereafter Davide returned from the kitchen with steaming plates of thinly sliced, tender chicken breast in a lemon wine sauce with fresh artichokes. The five us (Davide, Carlos, Jo, Dawn and myself) enjoyed a casual midday meal filled with laughter and camaraderie as I continued my quest for the inside story.

Savory Cheesecakes

Progression is a constant thing in life and it affects all aspects of our day to day life including cooking. The progress that has been recorded in cooking styles is highly encouraging, especially cheesecake making.

Historically, three only three primary ingredients were used in making cheesecake and these include: cheese, flour and sweetener. Out of the quest for making cheesecakes more relevant than the conventional after course, culinary experts and researchers have been able to record tremendous success.

Though often regarded as first course, savory cheesecakes are good enough to be taken as normal meal, mainly on the account of their obviously different ingredients from other cheesecakes. And, they are now more often taken as normal meal.

Making savory or sweet cheesecakes is possible with the use of different kinds of cheeses but the most appropriate one is the Italian ricotta cheese; it is really perfect for savory cheesecakes, and, though presently made from skim milk, it can be produced using cow milk, goat milk or sheep milk.

Moist texture, floral perfume, light, milky and succulence are the characteristics of a fresh cheese so you must always consider these features when selecting fresh cheeses for making savory cheesecakes.

In fact, occasionally, fresh cheeses are called fresh curd cheese because of their high moisture content and their sources - they can be extracted from any milk. The most discouraging thing about fresh cheeses is their limited shelf-life; therefore it is necessary to avoid buying them immediately you perceive any funny smell from them.

The Keys to Dominating Your Local Business

Before you can learn how to run, you need to learn how to walk first. This also applies in business. So before you expand globally, you must concentrate locally. And when I say concentrate that doesn't mean just to run your business. You should bring your A-game and dominate in your field. In other words, your business is on top of the world or at least somewhere close to that. You must "crush" your competitors with all your might, or at least leave them in your dust.

Meet Coffee Groundz. It's a small coffee shop located in Houston Texas. They serve a variety of coffee (locally roasted), both hot and frozen. They also have wonderful tea, delectable pastries, superb Gelato (also made locally), fresh sandwiches, and great selection of wine, beer and alcoholic drinks. Their ambiance is great and they have incredible service. But one competitor stands in their way..... Starbucks.

Starbucks has quadrillion outlets in Houston Texas and have been in the coffee business since 1971. Coffee Groundz is just new to the industry. How will they match up with the biggest coffee chain in the world? Simple.. Use Social Networking media, Online Press Attention, Video Presence and local business domination.

Coffee Groundz Operations Manager J.R. Cohen saw an opportunity by taking "To Go" orders in Twitter. Customers send their orders through Twitter to Cohen before they leave for work. Cohen will prepare the food and drinks and ready to be pick up. It turns out to be a great idea as their customers grew to 1,000 just by using Twitter.

Today Coffee Groundz has 10,163 followers from Twitter. Because of Twitter they came out with an idea of Drive Thru counter so that customers doesn't have to wait in line to get their coffee. Coffee Groundz may not be Starbucks but they are "in line" with them.

For any line of business you need to capture the local market first and then think about the rest of world. Your local business needs to be strong only then can you venture out.

Christmas Sweets For Grandkids

Grandchildren are special. When they are born they give happiness and delight to all the adults that surround them. With their delicate little bodies and angelic faces, they capture everyone's hearts and this does not stop until they grow bigger. Especially for grandparents, grandkids hold a special place in their hearts. This is because aside from their children, their grandkids are another extension of them and another manifestation of their existence as beings in this world.

It is not uncommon to see old people very happy and enjoying the moment so much when they are with their grandkids. Often, huge smiles are seen on their faces. Grandkids and grandparents alike would share laughter, fun, and adventure in their own activities. Often they are seen enjoying so many common things together that what seems like ordinary to some people becomes so special when they do it. Grandparents and the kids are seen playing together, chasing each other in places such as parks and even backyards, and eating their favorite treats together. When they all love sweets so much, they can finish sweet hampers filled with every imaginable treats.

Grandparents, whenever they visit grandchildren, can't help but feel elated and excited because they are about to spend time with the extension of themselves again. When they visit, they always have something for the kids to enjoy. They bring toys or sweet hampers and have plans regarding the activities they will do. Usually they go to fun and nice places such as zoo and parks. After which they will enjoy a festive lunch and dinner and have sweet hampers as snacks in between.

The feeling of bliss that anyone gets when eating chocolates and other sugary delights such as sweet hampers is the exact same thing that grandparents and kids feel when they are together. Whether on this moment they are enjoying sweet hampers or not, just being with each other is a simple activity that brings so much warmth to their hearts already.

How to Make an Old Fashion Baked Lemon Pudding

I love old fashion or vintage recipes. I have a collection of thousands and would not want to part with one. Sometimes there is just no substitute for some of the old recipes. And this Baked Lemon Pudding is one of those examples. This old recipe from a Methodist Church in Iowa and is worth the time and effort. This is a great recipe for family dinners and is loved by all, from the little ones to the grandparents. Why not make it for your family soon?

ANDI'S BAKED LEMON PUDDING
This recipe is from an old Methodist church in Iowa.

1 1/2 cups sugar, divided
1/2 cup flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
3 eggs
2 tsp grated lemon peel
1/4 cup lemon juice
2 tbsp melted butter
1 1/2 cups milk

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Butter a 2-quart baking dish and set aside.

Sift together 1 cup of the sugar, the flour, baking soda, and salt. Separate the eggs; beat the whites until stiff. Continue beating and add the remaining sugar, one spoonful at a time. Set whites aside.

Without washing the beaters, beat the egg yolks until light. To the yolks add the lemon rind, lemon juice, melted butter, and milk. Stir this mixture into the flour mixture. Beat until smooth. Add the egg whites and fold in gently until no white spots are remaining. Pour mixture into the prepared baking dish. Set dish in a pan of hot water about 1/2" deep. Bake for 45 minutes. Chill at least an hour before serving.

Yield: 6 to 8 servings.

Note: The top of this pudding will be cake like. The lemon custard beneath provides the sauce. Best when served warm.

Enjoy!
